Passage to India
Update 2/10/05
We arrived in Kochi (former Cochin) after an 11 day passage from Langkawi, Malaysia. The first week of the 1550 mile passage slid by with dolphins, calm seas and light winds. Our new modem allowed us to send email from the boat but for some reason we were unable to keep a SSB sked with an Australian boat a day behind us.(Problem has been traced to loose connections-operator error once again) Once we approached Sri Lanka the wind and sea picked up. At one point the Autothelm packed it in and we were handsteering in the middle of the night. We hove-to for a couple hours rest and jury-rigged a fix in the morning. The renowned Venturi effect between Sri Lanka and the southern tip of India forced us to put in the third reef in the main for the first time on this trip.We were more than ready to drop anchor in Kochi harbour.

After we re-galvanize our anchor chain and spare parts arrive we are heading north to Goa. Just inland is Belgaum, where my great-grandfather was born in 1861. Not too sure what we will find there, but any trip in India is an adventure.
