Battle up the Red Sea

We were very glad to arrive in Aden after motorsailing the whole way from Salalah with no lights for fear of pirates.(See noonsite.com for latest on attack on Mahdi and Gandalf).We picked up fresh produce and fueled up for the first leg up the Red Sea. As we went through the souk we noticed many of the men had chipmunk cheeks caused by a wad of quat leaves.

Our first landfall in the Red Sea was the old slaveport of Suakin in Sudan. We were lucky to carry SE winds almost to Suakin but for the next 800 miles we battled headwinds and steep seas.
