Germany and Denmark
After almost two months in the Netherlands we entered the Kiel Canal for the Baltic.
Although only a 100 km long, there's lots of traffic
Big TRAFFIC
at the British Kiel Yacht Club we celebrated Canada Day with a British family
Emma heading out for a day sail on Carmen
We sailed north to Svendborg, a small town full of wooden boats.Last year, friends from Victoria had bought a boat in Germany and cruised the Baltic. I emailed them to say we were in Denmark. They emailed back to say they were too, and included a cell number. I called, just as they were arriving in "what's the name of this place...Svenborg." We got together that evening to trade books and catch up on Canadian news.
another evening we caught a performance
of acrobats traveling on a tall ship
we had a couple of days on laidback Mons Island
old square in Stege, Mons
then sailed up to Kobenhaven
where we tied up at the Little Mermaid Marina
next morning we headed out to the Roskillde Viking
Museum on the train.
.watching one of the staff my mind started to wander....
..suppose you have a summer job taking nautical neophytes out on a replica Viking ship...
you show them how to row but one day you snap...
...you imagine what it would be like to whip some discipline into the crew a la galley slave.
:"PICK UP THE TEMPO, WE'RE GOING WATERSKIING....SWISH.CRACK. AUGHHHHHHH."
I think I've been reading too many novels about life aboard a ship in the 1700's.
